Electric Vehicle Tyres

Electric vehicles represent a major shift in the automotive industry. One key difference between electric cars and their petrol and diesel powered counterparts is the weight distribution. Batteries in electric vehicles are often heavy and bulky, and they are typically situated in the lower part of the vehicle. Regular tyres are designed to meet the needs of a petrol or diesel vehicle, with its weight distributed more evenly and mainly on the front wheels. In comparison, electric vehicles require specialised tyres to manage the added weight of the batteries and improve handling.

As electric vehicles run on battery power, optimising the efficiency of the vehicle is paramount to maximize driving range, which is a major concern for drivers. Electric vehicle tyres are designed to reduce rolling resistance, which is the energy loss that occurs when tyres roll on the ground. The right type of tyres can drastically improve energy efficiency, leading to longer driving ranges per charge. For this reason, specialized low-rolling-resistance tyres that minimize energy consumption, reduce noise and improve the overall range of electric vehicles are becoming more popular and are available from leading tyre manufacturers.
